Summer School: Accessible, Barrier-Free and Inclusive Cross-border Public Transport
Nothing about us without us.
“The best way to avoid barriers is to include people with disabilities in the planning from the outset”
Following the great success of the Accessible Barrier-Free Inclusive Cross-Border Public Transport Summer School 2025 at WU Vienna, we are delighted to announce the next edition, taking place at the University of Žilina, Slovakia. From 29 June to 3 July 2026, you can look forward to an intensive week full of knowledge transfer and international exchange!
Your learning and experience journey
The Summer School offers a unique opportunity to learn, connect, and engage, with a special focus on cross-border passenger transport. The core of the program is dedicated to designing an accessible and inclusive cross-border transport system.
Together with experts from academia and practice, representatives of organisations, and people with disabilities, you will work on new approaches to sustainable and accessible mobility. Through interactive workshops and lectures, participants will design innovative solutions and develop concrete concepts. You will also learn why it is essential to actively involve people with disabilities in planning processes from the very beginning.
To ensure that learning is not only theoretical but also tangible, self-experience plays a central role. Using simulation glasses, blindfolds, white canes, wheelchairs, and special simulation suits, students step into the shoes of people with disabilities and experience everyday challenges first-hand.
